Our firm recently obtained a favorable result in a 12-person jury trial in Madison County, Illinois. CWLG represented an insured driver, who attempted to legally pass a driver on a two-lane highway when the other driver had their right turn signal activated. As our insured driver attempted to pass the vehicle, that vehicle suddenly turned left instead of right. The driver of the other vehicle (plaintiff) claimed to have had her left turn signal activated in preparation for making a turn. As a result, plaintiff sought damages in excess of $500,000.00. On behalf of the defense, Nicole Winters argued that the evidence showed that defendant’s version of events indicated the more likely scenario. Additionally, Ms. Winters argued that plaintiff’s injuries and resulting treatment were not causally related to the accident. Before even getting to damages, the jury agreed with the defense argument regarding the facts of the accident, and after a two-day trial, the jury returned a verdict for defendant (plaintiff received $0).
This is the firm’s fourth jury trial since the beginning of 2023.
